At KeraVet Bio, we’ve always believed that good care belongs in good hands. This summer, we turned that belief into action through our 46 Cases of Care: Heal It Forward campaign, donating 46 cases of KeraVet Gel (1,104 tubes) to animal shelters and rescue organizations across the country. Our goal was to place innovative wound and incision care into the hands of the people helping some of the most vulnerable animals heal. What happened next reminded us just how incredible the veterinary community truly is.
More Than a Donation
Instead of choosing the recipients ourselves, we invited veterinary teams and animal lovers to nominate shelters and rescues that make an extraordinary impact in their communities. Within a day, several nominations were submitted. Each submission told the story of teams working tirelessly to treat injured animals, help surgical patients through recovery, care for abandoned pets, and give thousands of animals the opportunity for a second chance. Reading every nomination was a warm and fuzzy reminder that healing doesn’t happen because of one person or one product. It happens because people who care show up every single day.
Stories That Inspired Us
In Ohio, Urbana Vet Clinic nominated Barely Used Pets, sharing a story that went far beyond animal rescue. The organization not only saves homeless pets but has helped families keep beloved companions during difficult times, supported local animal control efforts, and even provided temporary care for a homeless person’s dog while their owner worked to rebuild their life.
At San Diego Humane Society, Dr. Sylvia Nagy nominated Frosted Faces Foundation in Ramona, CA, sharing that the organization is “always healing chronic wounds and post-operative repairs.” Their work providing lifelong care for senior dogs with complex medical needs perfectly embodies the spirit of this campaign.
Deerwood Animal Clinic recognized Safe Animal Shelter in Middleburg, FL, describing its staff as doing endless work with full hearts “to help these fur babies get healthy and find forever homes.”
Meanwhile, Companion Veterinary Health Services nominated Clear Creek/Gilpin County Animal Shelter (Charlie’s Place) in Colorado for tirelessly providing care and enrichment to all the temporary and permanent residents of the shelter.
And Swansea Veterinary Center nominated Swansea Animal Shelter in Massachusetts, writing, “The Swansea Animal Shelter is one of those rare places where every animal is treated as an individual who deserves patience, kindness, and a second chance. The staff and volunteers consistently go above and beyond, often with limited resources, to provide exceptional care, medical attention, enrichment, and love to every animal that comes through their doors. They don’t just find homes—they create brighter futures. Whether they’re rehabilitating frightened strays, caring for sick or injured animals, reuniting lost pets with their families, or educating the community about responsible pet ownership, their compassion is evident in everything they do.”
These are only a handful of the inspiring nominations we received. Behind every submission was a team making an extraordinary difference in the lives of animals every day.
Why This Matters
Shelter medicine is unlike any other area of veterinary medicine. Patients often have traumatic wounds, surgical incisions, skin disease, or injuries requiring ongoing treatment while recovering in a busy kennel environment. Veterinary teams balance exceptional medical care with limited time, limited resources, and a constant stream of new patients needing help. KeraVet Gel was designed to support wound and incision healing through keratin-powered repair while discouraging licking. In shelter medicine, where every minute matters and every patient deserves smooth healing, we hope that a case of KeraVet Gel makes a meaningful difference to their care.
When Dr. Luke Burnett founded KeraVet Bio, helping rescue animals was always part of the company’s mission. As the proud pet parent of rescue dogs and a rescue cat, he envisioned a company committed not only to innovation, but also to supporting the people who dedicate their lives to helping animals in need. The 46 Cases of Care campaign became far more than a product donation. It became a celebration of veterinary teams and pet lovers who took the time to recognize the shelters and rescues changing lives every day.
