KeraVet Bio joins the Fear Free initiative
By Michelle Barson, KeraVet Bio Staff
Winston-Salem, North Carolina – KeraVet Bio is excited to announce that their flagship product, KeraVet Gel, is officially a Fear Free Preferred Product. Being a part of the Fear Free Preferred Product Program is important to the team at KeraVet Bio because they are working to create a new standard of care for wound management in dogs and cats.
KeraVet Gel is designed to provide a moist wound bed and barrier to the environment, thus promoting a better wound outcome. The patent protected, keratin technology has an added bitterant to eliminate the need for the E-collar and other restraint devices. This unique combination allows veterinarians to remove fear and stress from the treatment process and maintain the human-animal bond through a quicker return to normal activities and a comfortable recovery experience.
“This product was developed specifically with the human-animal bond in mind,” said Dr. Luke Burnett, KeraVet Bio CEO and Chief Science Officer. “We (KeraNetics, Inc.) developed this amazing technology to change lives of people and, as pet owners ourselves, we wanted to bring the same level of quality and care to the lives of cats and dogs. One of the problems with wound care for our pets, is it often requires the use of a lick prevention device such as an E-collar and those cause stress and anxiety to the pet, client, and veterinary team. So, we reformulated our human FDA-cleared medical product for the veterinary market to also discourage licking behavior thus eliminating the E-collar from the equation. Our product has been used by hundreds of clinicians and the feedback is consistent – KeraVet Gel stops the licking behavior in cats and dogs, while improving wound outcomes”.
Dr. Natalie Marks, an Elite Fear Free Certified Professional and KeraVet Bio Advisor, shared that “veterinarians are acutely aware of the anxiety epidemic in canine and feline patients, and the consequence of this untreated anxiety and stress is erosion of the human-animal bond. Many of today’s veterinary professionals are taking significant steps to practice medicine that reduces fear, anxiety, and stress in patients, clients, and veterinary teams for the best physical and emotional health of families. Improving wound care and reducing the stress for pets and pet parents of returning home with an E-collar is an incredible benefit to using KeraVet Gel.”
Dr. Marty Becker, Founder of Fear Free and a KeraVet Bio Advisor, comments, “skin problems are the number one reason pets see their veterinarian. I recommend a product be used when it helps the pet, the pet parents, the practitioner, the practice, and elevates the overall profession. KeraVet Gel checks all of those boxes and is a powerful solutuion for pet parents and practice teams.”
